Since my idea of wardrobe staples are pieces that present you with many different outfit options and enhance your overall style quotient, I thought it would be interesting to talk about some such pieces in my own closet.
Leopard print pumps (I especially love them in a textured variety)-these shoes are a neutral that literally works with everything. It’s a lot more fun than a basic black pump and serves the same purpose. I’ve had this pair for about 4 years now and I find myself wearing them year round with both daytime and evening looks.
Red lipstick-this glossy lipstick is glamour in a tube. I’ve recently converted to this easiest makeup routine ever: even out your skin tone with concealer/foundation, put on some mascara because long/full lashes are always a must, and add a dash of the scarlet magic on your pout. You’re done! This look is an elusive combination of clean and youthful yet dramatic and glamorous. It will look fabulous when worn with ball gowns, pajamas, and everything in between.
Statement ring-glamorous, sophisticated, unique…all the qualities I try to embody. A statement ring is the simplest way to convey these characteristics to the world in both your daytime and evening looks.
Fishnet or lace pantyhose-I’ve always been a fan of creative hosiery options (printed Cavalli last season was to die for) and my favorite hosiery flavor du jour is black lace. These pantyhose will make it a synch to rework your evening dresses into Parisian chic ensembles echoing Moulin Rouge and Old Hollywood glamour.
Sequined jacket or vest-I literally cannot think of an outfit that wouldn’t be made all the more fabulous by an addition of a sequined jacket. I’m obsessed with mine! Wore it twice this week. Had it paired with pleated cropped pant, a platform wedge bootie, and a men’s white v-neck Tee for a Wednesday night networking event and wore it again to a wedding on Friday with a silk one shoulder teal dress. Note that the strong, slightly padded shoulder gives some structure and definition to an otherwise fluid shape. To borrow an expression from Rachel Zoe: I die! By the way I think this piece would also look fab with boyfriend jeans and dark leggings (not at the same time ; ).
Black harem pant-a lot less boring than jeans and even more comfy…I wear mine to the dog run paired with casual flats and out paired with platform shoes. I’ve also worn them to trade shows and to bed on occasions. I basically live in the pair I purchase for $3 in India. BCBG has some well tailored ones that I’m eyeing for when my Indian pair falls apart.
